Yoga for Mental and Emotional Healing
by Claudia Altonen
I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years and guiding others for the past five. My journey has been rooted in both personal transformation and dedicated study, earning certifications in Ashtanga, Kundalini, Yin, Tantric Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Reiki Level II.I believe yoga is an accessible and powerful pathway to mental wellness, offering tools for self-regulation, awareness, and healing that extend far beyond the mat. My teaching approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and grounded in the understanding that true healing happens when people feel safe, supported, and empowered in their own bodies.I am deeply passionate about helping individuals heal from trauma so they can reconnect with themselves and live healthy, balanced, and joyful lives. Through mindful movement, breath work, and deep rest, I strive to create spaces where transformation, resilience, and self-trust can grow

Purpose: heals the mental state by regulating the nervous system, reducing cortisol (stress hormone) levels, and balancing energy centers (chakras) through a combination of breathwork, mantra, mudra, and movement. It promotes emotional release, strengthens mental clarity, and aids in reducing anxiety and PTSD symptoms.

Yin yoga
Purpose: heals the mind and emotional health by
utilizing long-held, passive poses to activate the parasympathetic "rest and digest" nervous system, reducing cortisol and stress. By holding deep stretches for 3–5 minutes, practitioners cultivate mindfulness, release stored physical/emotional tension, increase emotional resilience, and improve mental clarity.

Yoga Nidra / "yogic sleep"
Purpose: guided meditation technique practiced lying down that induces deep, conscious relaxation to significantly improve mental and emotional health. It reduces chronic stress, anxiety, and depression by activating the parasympathetic nervous system. It also improves sleep, fosters emotional regulation, and facilitates healing by processing subconscious emotions.

Gentle Flow
Purpose: a slow-paced, accessible practice that combines mindful movement with breath to improve flexibility, reduce stress, and build foundational strength. It is suitable for all levels, particularly beginners or those recovering from injury.
